Happy Holidays!

Here's hoping that your Christmas and New Year are filled with excitement and happiness.  Take a moment to remember those we lost who sacrificed their life, and all those who continue to risk their life so that all of us can be safe.  We get so caught up in the moments of Christmas that we sometimes forget that police officers, fire fighters, EMS, and military personnel are still out there working all hours of the day and night, missing out on time with their own families so that we may enjoy ours.  To all of you out there working, thank you for your service, and to all of you out there who may be grieving the loss of someone you love whether it be just yesterday or 20 years ago, my prayers are with you as this time of the year can be so difficult.

Light five candles:  one for grief, one for courage, one for memories, one for love, and one for hope.

As you light each candle say:

This candle represents our grief.  The pain of losing you is intense.

This candle represents our courage to confront our sorrow, to comfort each other, and to change our lives.

This candle is in your memory - the times we laughed, the times we cried, the times we were angry with each other, the silly things you did, and the joy you gave us.

This candle is the light of love.  We thank you for the gift your living brought to each of us.  We cherish the special place in our hearts that will always be reserved for you.

And this is the light of hope.  It reminds us of love and memories of you that are ours forever.  The glow of this flame is our source of hopefulness as we hold your memories forever in our hearts.

New Blog

I have decided to post a regular blog on our website.  I have come a long way in my computer knowledge since I forced myself to create this website.  My goal is to post what's new with The Foundation on this page, what's new with the family, and give the viewers of this website a way to publicly post comments about anything...The Foundation, memories of Grant, other fallen heroes, or whatever you feel worthy.  I am excited to see and hear what you have to say, so please don't be shy.

I would like to give a brief summary of what the GAJ Memorial Foundation has done over the past year.  Yes, it has been a year since this Foundation was created, and I am thoroughly impressed at how hard people have worked to make it a success.  In the last year, we have held a BB Gun Meat Shoot, a Spring Garage/Baked Goods Sale, a Golf Tournament, a Trivia Night, and a Sporting Clay Shoot.  Total money raised for all these events have summed to a little over $17,000.  Whew...I don't think I have ever looked at the whole total for the year.  That is incredible for our first year!  With that money, we have awarded five $1,000 scholarships to Eastern Missouri Police Academy Recruits, we have made donations to Backstoppers, Autism Speaks, and MO COPS, as well as purchased an air conditioner unit to be placed in the back of a police cruiser to help cool the police officer's K9 partner.  We have also already set aside the money needed to award 4 more scholarships over the next year, and are preparing for our next round of fundraisers after the first of the year.  A special thank you to all of you who have participated in our events, and/or helped with the events, and to our sponsors who have contributed monetary donations or items to be auctioned off at our events.  We could not have done any of this without your support.  Please feel free to comment on any of our events to help ensure improvement for next year.  I will keep you posted on the happenings of The GAJ Memorial Foundation...please stay tuned.
